TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Container may explode violently in heat of fire.

In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Blue skin. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Drowsiness. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness (see Ingestion).
    Ventilation. Breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! Sweating and twitching in the area of absorption.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain. Pupillary constriction.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps. Confusion. Diarrhoea. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Weakness. Loss of appetite.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Ventilation. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs. Keep in a well-ventilated room. Do not store in iron containers.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
PALE YELLOW MOBILE LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing highly toxic fumes of phosphorous oxides and sulfur oxides. Reacts with strong oxidants. Attacks some forms of plastic, rubber and coating. Corrosive to iron.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: ppm; 0.2 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will not or will only very slowly be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsion, respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Exposure far above the OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.

    Solubility in water: none
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20░C: 0.0226
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to water. It is strongly advised not to let the chemical enter into the environment.
    NOTES
Technical grade is a dark-coloured liquid, boiling point 131-132░C at 0.267 kPa. Do NOT take working clothes home. ASP 47, Bladafum, Dithion, Dithiotep, Dithiofos are trade names.
